2016: Bela Padilla’s Year in Review

Bela Padilla is an acclaimed actress with many achievements under her belt especially in 2016. She had consecutive movies, TV shows, and appeared in and recurring commercials endorsing several prominent brands.

While #CocoBel have a strong following due to their roles in FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano, Bela’s own relationship with longtime boyfriend, Neil Arce.

1. #CocoBel! Coco Martin and Bela Padilla’s pairing became trending in 2016 with the success of their teleserye, FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano. The CocoBel pairing clicked so much because of the chemistry they oozed during their scenes.

2. Praise for “I America”, Bela’s first Cinemalaya movie!

Directed by Ivan Andrew Payawal, “I America” is a comedy drama film chronicling the journey of a complex half-Pinay, half-Caucasian lady looking for American living in Olongapo City (Philippines) who tries to get her passport and US visa in order to meet her father personally for the first time. Many critics raved on Bela’s compelling acting propelling the movie well.

Her performance in I America has led to an endorsement for another indie project whose title she’d rather keep to herself for now.

Bela co-wrote this blockbuster romance comedy film in 2016 where she was also terrific in the lead role. She excellently led viewers through every phase of the journey of her character. The movie got many starred reviews for its phenomenological view on coping up with heartbreak.

Bela says that the secret to her strong relationship with Neil Arce is maturity and openness. They trust each other and give one another room to grow. She informs Neil when he can’t text or call her for the time being — during tapings. Neil knows when to keep his distance the way she’s aware when she must give way to his work.

5. Award-winning Tomodachi film.

July 9, 2016 saw Bela Padilla receive awards with her costar and film staff during the 2016 Madrid International Film Festival. Bela’s leading man in the film, Japanese actor-producer, Jacky Woo won as Best Actor while she got the Best Actress Award.

Tomodachi, produced by Global Japan, Inc, also received the following awards: Best Foreign Language Feature Film andBest Musical Score para kay Jacky Woo at Emerson Teczon. Directed by acclaimed director, Joel Lamangan, Tomodachi follows the story of Toshiro (Jacky Woo) who was simply known as “Tomodachi” in Cavite. He had a best friend there, Edilberto (Pancho Magno). Toshiro Edilberto’s younger sister, Rosalinda (Bela Padilla) eventually had a romantic relationship. The main conflict in the story was when Toshiro served as an officer of the Japanese Imperial Army and Edilberto fought for the guerilla during World War II.

6. Winning even on endorsements!

Bela also flourished under several new and recurring endorsements. With a fit body that looks like a model’s and a face of an angel, it’s no wonder that the 25-year-old actress endorses many prominent successful brands in the country.
One of such brands is San Mig Light, wherein she stars with several famous male celebrities like Rowan Blanchard.


Bela also joins her Camp Sawi co-star Yassi Pressman as a model for a direct selling company. While Yassi models for Avon Teens bra and underwear, Bela flaunts her sexy body for Natasha Shape.

7. Fearless in the face of danger.

Bela Padilla leads the OJT The Series. Officially titled “On The Job: The Missing 8,” the series follows the story of four people whose lives intertwine when eight journalists from Sisoy’s town are massacred by Roman’s group and buried without a trace a day before Christmas Eve. Bela plays Pam, a passionate and honest big network investigative journalist from Manila. This series is a spinoff of the successful OTJ film starring Piolo Pascual.

8. EchoBel?

Jericho Rosales and Bela Padilla are set to work together for upcoming movie, “Luck at First Sight.” Viva Productions teased the public with the tagline, “What will you choose? Love or Luck?”. Hmm. Seems like we have a new pairing to watch out for.


9. Multi-awarded actress!

Bela Padilla co-hosted the PMPC Star Awards for Movies 2016 where she was also nominated as Movie Supporting Actress of the Year for her role in Felix Manalo. Her movie also got the following awards: Movie Best Actor of the Year, Movie Production Designer of the Year, and Movie Original Theme Song of the Year. She got a special award that night as Female Face of the Night, too.
10. Brilliant, no matter what the role.’ Yan si Bela Padilla!
Bela had short appearances in TV shows and movies in 2016. She played the role of a woman who tries to kidnap her friend’s baby to hide her own miscarriage from her boyfriend in the September 10 “Sanggol” episode of the ABS CBN crime documentary series, Ipaglaban Mo. She also appeared as a guest named Criselda in the family comedy drama show, Home Sweetie Home. She had a supporting role in the 2016 comedy film, Working Beks. Most importantly, she reunited with former Ang Probinsyano costar Coco Martin in the Star Cinema blockbuster comedy film, The Parental super Guardians in a cameo role as a woman named Emmy.


2016 was a very fruitful year for Bela Padilla and we’re sure that she will have more projects in the futre. While we know that there are many other reasons showing Bela’s success in 2016, these are the best for us! More power to you, Bela!
